Hello and welcome back to the podcast. I'm really excited to kick off a new series. To kick all of that off, I really wanted to dive into mindset. I am a mindset girly, and I haven't done one of these really big juicy episodes in quite some time, but before that, we're gonna be diving into A four part mini series on the five figure sales skills that every wedding photographer needs to get booked at 10 K per wedding. And it's totally possible we're gonna be breaking this down with my main four tools and philosophies and strategies. It's going to be a really good one. Follow along because this is really going to shake the way you think about business and how achievable it really is to have this successful business that you had envisioned since picking up your camera. Let's be so for real. So without further ado, let's dive into The five mindsets you need to make six figures or build a profitable business, whatever success looks like to you. Number one is ditching the scarcity and going for abundance. Now, this alone could probably shift the way that you think about your life and your business, The way that this comes up in most of our thoughts and stories is that there is not enough room for me, right? Or there's already so many people in the industry. The industry is saturated, and how in the world am I going to be able to build a business if so and so is already booked out, and so is. Better than me, charging more than me, maybe charging less than me and able to book out, but I can't and the reason always is rooted in scarcity, which is the feeling of never enough. And when you have a scarcity mindset, it can be challenging to get out of it because when you're thinking the same thoughts over and over, it becomes a truth to you, which is so paralyzing and can be hard to get out of because you're so close to it that you really can't see it. Like this is normal to you. You probably think everybody thinks this when really you might be the only person who thinks this way. And so how do you shift this scarcity mindset of there's never enough. I could never, this person's better is. Diving into abundance and abundance is that there is enough So let's look at it in terms of facts and data, because. Scarcity is honestly just an opinion. Do you really know? Like factually like data numbers, receipts, proof, articles, that there isn't enough room for you. Prove it. Prove that you are correct, and I will tell you that abundance isn't necessary. I'll wait. Exactly, because there is no actual proof that there isn't enough. But I will give you proof that there is enough. And that there are 8 billion people in the world as of 20, 25, 8 billion. That's so many. And there are an estimated about 343 million people in the United States alone. So if you're a destination wedding photographer, then that number will not even affect you because you're gonna be traveling across the globe, but if you only wanna shoot weddings in the United States, then okay there's 343 million people in the world. A little less than 8 billion. Correct? But the point is, how many weddings do you actually need to be booked, to be busy, to be profitable, and at what price point. The industry is not saturated because there are approximately. 2 million couples expected to get married every single year in the us. Okay? I didn't even do the globe. I'm just in the us, okay? 2 million couples. If you only need 20 to 25 to be booked, then maybe there is room for you. Maybe there is room for what you bring to the table and how you can do it differently. Boom. Scarcity, crushed, abundance, adopted. The next is fixed mindset, and it doesn't really sound that cool. I like to call this the complacency mindset because a fixed mindset means you're not gonna do anything. You're so scared of failing or the unknown that you never do anything. You're in the same spot that you were last year, the year before, and hopefully not years before that. And so this one is usually caused by perfection. And the abil, the fear of making a mistake and if you view making a mistake as a failure? Or maybe you just feel so threatened by other people's success, you're like, I could never do that. So I'm gonna stay right here where it's nice and safe, my little bubble. It might not be profitable, it might not be working out for me. Maybe my account is negative half the time, but at least I'm safe. I go against the grain already. So I've always been a growth girly. Like I love to break the rules. I don't like doing what everybody says I'm gonna do. I remember tons of people saying This business would never work, and my response was, watch me. And it continues to be so as I have grown and changed and made mistakes, done things imperfectly. While fearing failure, don't get me wrong, like I fear failure. I do not like to fail. Failure is only a perception. And I mean that by saying what actually is a failure? And if I ask a bunch of people that are listening to this right now, what is failure to you? It's gonna be different because failure is not a one size fits all kind of thing. We all perceive failure to be different things, and for me, my biggest fear is complacency. If I am in the same place this time next year, that would've been a failure to me. Because I haven't done anything and I believe that we should constantly be growing and changing. And how does that develop into growth? Growth mindset is like just getting dirty doing the hard work. roll up, your sleeves, get dirty, embrace the challenge. Fall on your face, make a mistake, learn from it, and keep going. Now, it can be a failure if you make a mistake. But it also could be perceived as a lesson. And I've always said that it's never a failure. It is a lesson. It is only a failure if you didn't learn your lesson. So if you're doing the same thing five to 10 times, yeah, we're at failure. Yeah. But if you can look at something, and let's say you made a mistake, right? Something was imperfect, God forbid. And you tell yourself, okay, what was I supposed to learn for this and what am I not gonna do the next time? Then that was a lesson, and you're gonna take your beautiful growth mindset and apply the lesson so that you don't make the same mistake. Maybe we'll call that a failure, right? Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. What did Einstein say? That's crazy and instead of being competitive with somebody, you're gonna be inspired by somebody. If somebody has success, you're gonna say, oh, they did that. I can do that too. Why not me? Let's go. that just proves that this can be done. That just validates what I'm gonna be working towards versus being like, oh, this person does that. Oh, they think they're better than everybody else. Oh, I'm not gonna do that. The perception is completely different. And then growth mindset is also taking the feedback, taking the no nonsense, no fluff feedback. Being like, all right, cool. I'm gonna apply this and moving on. Not always being so emotionally attached to every single thing. If you make it a big deal, then it is a big deal. If not, just keep it moving. This is one I've actually never talked about before, but cultivating a creative mindset, and this is the fun stuff, right? Because we're all artists at heart. We're all artists. Innately, I think all of us can do something artistic, but having a creative mindset is almost giving yourself permission to create. In a way that feels good to you, unique to you, based on your life, based on what you're drawn to. Maybe you have a vision of what you want your work to look like. Why don't you figure out how you can make that happen creatively, steve Jobs said Creativity is intelligence, having fun. So that being said, don't be afraid to create something. Don't look at anybody else if you're gonna create it, do your absolute best not to compare. To other creators, other artists seek inspiration elsewhere and then have fun. Like, when did we stop having fun in our photography businesses? I know business jargon is not fun and going through all these things, and especially mindset work, also not fun, but once the work is done. The creativity on the other side is gonna be so worth it. You're gonna feel like a butterfly. Everything that you touch just turns to gold and you are just out there flying around, showing off your beautiful wings. That's what I want for you. And the last mindset is the ability to break the rules, which I had touched on before, but like, while all of us are giving advice and strategies based on our examples and our truths, you ultimately I say, are the CEO of your life. Man. If you don't wanna do it, don't do it. If you think there's a better way, try it. It might not have been done before. I think the beautiful thing about being a business owner is your ability to do things your own way. We give you the tools and you can run with it and do whatever you want with it, and I want you to have that creative freedom to be able to do that. But you have to adopt these mindsets if you're ever gonna build a successful business, if you're ever gonna be proud of yourself, your your own hype person. And so if your mindset's in the trash, guess who's hyping you up? Maybe your parents. But other than that, nobody. You are your own secret weapon. So if you can be on your own, if you can be on your own side, right? If you could be cheering yourself on even when things are hard, even when things seem like they're not gonna come together. Man, could you imagine what you could create instead of talking to yourself like some mean bully? What if you just said, okay, that was a setback, but we can keep going. I have a plan. Let's come up with a plan. What can we do? How can we achieve this faster? How can we learn from that lesson? can we journal this? Do we need to talk to a therapist? Do we need to get our mind clear? Like how can we keep going until we build this beautiful business that we dreamed about? The moment we picked up a camera and told somebody, I am a wedding photographer, I'm a business owner. Okay? So these are the five mindsets. If you ever need a pep talk, listen to this.
